Why
Join Newkirk?
As one of the Capital Region’s leading employers, Newkirk
is proud of the advantages it offers its employees — advantages
you may not find at other companies.
We treat you as an individual.
At Newkirk, we do our best to take your personal needs and expectations
into consideration as we develop our employment relationship with
you.
We believe that your success is our success.
Our hiring process matches your individual capabilities with the
requirements of the job. After you’re hired, we offer on-the-job
training that teaches you the specialized skills you need to be
successful in your position. We give you feedback on your performance
with regular evaluations. When it’s appropriate, we arrange
ongoing training to help you excel in your job.
We communicate with you.
We let you know where you stand. You’ll know up front what
to expect from us and what we expect from you. And, even though
Newkirk is privately owned, we routinely share important information
about the company — financial and otherwise — with
all our employees. Management welcomes your questions, comments,
and suggestions, as well.
We still take a small business approach.
Newkirk employs more than 300 people, but we still think of ourselves
as a small company and work hard to maintain the family atmosphere
that comes with a small business. You won’t get lost in
the shuffle at Newkirk.
We provide opportunities for growth.
Newkirk is a financially stable, growing company that prides itself
on promoting from within. Nearly all of our supervisors and managers
are “homegrown,” and most of the company’s senior
management rose through the ranks at Newkirk. As we grow, new
opportunities are continually opening up to employees who have
the skills, desire, and dedication to take advantage of them.
At Newkirk, we don’t just create jobs — we create
careers.
Newkirk's Compensation Package
As you compare compensation offered by different employers, be sure
you are comparing apples to apples. Salary or hourly pay shouldn’t
be the only factor you consider. Your company-paid benefits may
make up a large part of what you are really paid for your work,
and you need to take them into account.
At Newkirk, we ask prospective employees to evaluate our entire
compensation and benefits package before making an employment decision.
Why do we encourage you to take this approach? The reason is simple:
We think that our combined pay and benefits package is one of the
best around.
Competitive Pay
Bonuses
40(k)/Profit-Sharing Plan
Medical Benefits
Paid Vacation and Holidays/Sick and Personal
Leave
Long Term Disability Insurance/Group Term

Government-required Programs
Other Benefits
Competitive
Pay.
Our salary and hourly pay figures are competitive. We regularly
evaluate them and the other parts of our pay package to ensure they
stay competitive within the regional job marketplace. For full-time
hourly paid employees working the second and third shifts, we pay
shift differentials.
Bonuses.
Salaried employees are eligible for bonus pay. Bonuses are based
on both individual and company performance. While bonuses are discretionary
each year, Newkirk has paid annual bonuses for more than ten years
straight.
401(k)/Profit-Sharing
Plan.
Newkirk maintains both a 401(k) salary-deferral plan and a profit-sharing
retirement plan for its employees. Employees become eligible for
the 401(k) plan after one month of service. An employee may choose
to contribute a portion of pay on a before-tax basis. Newkirk makes
a percentage matching contribution for each dollar contributed up
to 5% of pay. Employees may stop contributions anytime.
Newkirk also contributes to a profit-sharing plan for the benefit
of all eligible employees, whether or not they participate in the
401(k) plan. While there is no guarantee that a contribution will
be made in any particular year, we have made contributions in all
years but one since 1990. For each of the past three years, Newkirk
has made an average profit-sharing contribution equal to 5% of annual
compensation to the plan accounts of eligible employees. Employees
generally become eligible for profit-sharing after working for the
company for more than a year.
Medical
Benefits.
Newkirk offers employees an Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO)
Plan through The Capital District Physicians' Health Plan. The plan
also offers the option to purchase a Preferred Provider Organization
(PPO) Plan.
Newkirk pays 90% of medical plan coverage for employees (a 20% employee
contribution is required for family coverage). This represents a
significant savings (often, in the thousands of dollars) for those
employees who would otherwise have to pay all of the cost of their
coverage. Newkirk also provides self-insured dental and prescription
drug plans.
What if an employee has other health coverage (because, for example,
the employee is covered under a spouse’s plan)? Newkirk will
reimburse the employee through its medical buyback program.
As an additional benefit, a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) with
a convenient debit card is available to pay for medical and dependent
care with employee pre-tax dollars. Qualifying expenses include,
but are not limited to: doctor visit co-pays, health insurance deductibles,
prescription co-pays, chiropractor visits, orthodontia, eyeglasses,
and more.
Paid Vacation and Holidays/Sick and
Personal Leave.
Newkirk provides paid vacation, holiday, and leave benefits to all
eligible employees.
Long-term Disability
Insurance/Group Term Life Insurance.
Long-term illness can represent a very real financial hardship to
an employee and the employee’s family. Newkirk provides long-term
disability insurance of up to 60% of pay at no cost to eligible
employees with more than one year of service. The company also pays
the full premium for group term life insurance coverage of twice
the annual salary (up to $100,000 of coverage) for eligible employees.
Employee
Assistance Program.
We also offer — free of charge — an Employee Assistance
Program that helps employees who have drug, alcohol, emotional,
or other personal problems to find appropriate assistance for those
problems.
Government-required
Programs.
Newkirk provides eligible employees the benefits required by the
federal and state governments, such as the employer’s part
of Social Security taxes, workers’ compensation, state disability,
and unemployment insurance.
Other Benefits.
The following benefit programs are also available to eligible employees.
