Event Description

Ethics for Retirement Plan Professionals

Description 2010 is the first year that many industry professionals will be required to add Ethics and Professionalism to their continuing education regiment. This class will provide an overview of a number of ethical responsibilities from Circular 230 with real world examples. This will become a more important part of training as time goes on and the DOL updates their Fiduciary standards. ASPPA among others will require 2 hours of Ethics and Professionalism each year. Also subject to this requirement are Enrolled Retirement Plan Agents (ERPAs).

Topics will include:
  • The requirements of IRS OPR Circular 230
  • Who is the client?
  • Best practices
  • When is the employer late with their contribution or illegally self dealing to the detriment of participants?
  • The roles and duties of the various plan fiduciaries in the qualified plan arena.
  • Conflicts of Interest
